Windows Live Messenger comes up every time I open up. Have not signed up yet as it seems to be a Yahoo  website in the cloud and I already have two (Googlemail and Orange)
Is it worth it? You will see from the Software section of this Forum I already have trouble with IE?
Your opinions/experience will be welcome. Thanks.

If you don't need it, turn it off. I'll have to chase down a post-XP machine to see where that can be done, but it should be possible somewhere. Maybe if it loads an icon into the System Tray?

Hi

Messenger is a program which I am using to chat with friends either in written form or with headphones and microphone.
As Michael has already posted ..you need to adjust the settings in Messenger.
Also under the same TOOLS heading you will find PRIVACY ..there you can decide who can contact you.
I prefered that only people in my list are able to contact me.

Otherwise it is a useful piece of kit when staying in contact with friends and family at no cost.

Thank you Michael and t-beanes for that info. Sorry not to have acknowledged before but I got bogged down with other issues concerning hardware and software. I am beginning to wonder if changing to 64-bit was a good idea - so many drivers are not yet ready. ('Expected soon!)
